Tuscany excursion

May 30th / San Martino-Sienne - San Martino : 282 km

Motorcycle and GP race, it's fun, but riding all that way without enjoying Tuscany treasures would be a bit sad. So, today, let's go to Sienna, through the Chianti region, famous for its wine. We go Firenze from BB using an already charming road.

We don't enter the city, and directly go to Chianti. There is still a few traffic, but it's already typical, with hills, trees and the famous Italian 'Casas'.

Photo 2

It's already time to have lunch, and we stop in Greve di Chianti, on the central square.

Photo 3

I eat a panini while Antoine is fighting with bank automats : his bank has locked his card, because 'there could be some problems in Italy' (sometimes, banks make me angry !!). At the exit of Greve, we face once again one Tuscany landscape.

The road follows so till Sienna, with really few people and a great surface.I'll add it to my best roads archives. We enter Sienna, and go directly to the main square, called piazza del Campo.

Photo 5

This square is really wonderful, and here is organized that crazy horse race, called Palio. Mugello is for childrens compared to that !!

We leave Sienna for the second point of interest of the day : the old city of San Gimignano. On our way, we meet a 10 minutes rain shower, and guess who did not carry his rain suit 'because I don't want to take my tank bag today'...Antoine of course !! So, he's all wet. I begin to have headaches, which is not so good too. Here is a view taken from San Gimignano's wall.

The inside of the city is really charming too (with a pharmacy on the central square, good for headaches).

Here is another view from the city wall.

And we go back to BB along Firenze heights. Tomorrow, second part of Tuscany visit.
