The day starts well : sun is shining (if only I knew what is waiting for me on the next days !!). I use that opportunity to take pictures of this 100% scottish campsite : just beetween a graveyard and its ghosts....
...and the sea.
The road is overhanging the coast, and I do my first stop near a bit strange harbour. It's in fact a military base, which was secret in old times, and from where started the boats providing USSR with essential goods during world war 2.
Then, there is a serie of views on mountains, forests, lakes and sea.
I notice a british humor touch. A roadsign is indicating the city of 'Stromeferry', under which is written : (no ferries). Nice attention for lost travellers.
And, on the top of a pass, I see the majestic peaks of the main destination of the day : the Isle of Skye.
But before, it would be a pity to not have a look at 'Eileen Donan Castle', maybe the most typical of Scotland with its bridge.
Then I go back toward Skye, which is getting closer and closer.
And closer we are, better it looks. Since about fifteen years, there is a bridge to reach Skye. Great, I will avoid to have to wait for a ferrie during 30 mins. The beginning of the island is a bit flat, but we can already see some peaks ahead. Great, there will for sure be amazing roads and landscapes there. Here is a teaser :
Here we are, hairpins, great road surface, fjords, peaks...yahoooo! Let's have a look at the end of the island.
I will ride the road going around the north east part of Skye. I have to cross Portree city, and incredible, i hear the sound of a klaxon !! The first and the last one in Scotland ! I overtake a dutch Harley, and I'm back on a single track road.
Cruising beetween, sea, mountains and Loch Leathan :
During a few kilometers, we can see on the left the Storr mountains.
It's time to turn on the right, toward Kilt Rock , famous point of view located on a cliff.
Especially well known for its waterfall.
Then the road goes through the deserted plateau of northern Skye, the road is still single track , even sometimes half track. Sheep road anyway !
But they don't dare to go till this runied castle (Duntulm Castle).
As the weather is totally clear, we can see the main Island of the Hebirdes, Lewis and Harris.
It's time to finish the circle and go back to Portree, via Uig :
I arrive on a normal two lanes road, and then do again the nice way of this morning. After some shopping in Broadford, I decide to leave Skye with its southern ferrie starting from Ardvasar. Here is the harbour :
The silence is suddenly broken by a spanish family travelling with a camping car. Three excited kids get off it. I couldn't believe three childrens could be so noisy, seems the scottish around me also thought so. Let's board on :
After a few kilometers along a white sand beaches coast, I stop in Arisaig campsite.
Night will be good, despite strong wind : I worry a little about my tent reliability because it's a bit old.
